Designland is a New York City studio that designs hang tags, labels and trim packages for clothing brands selling online and into retail.

Packaging often speaks louder than the product, because the shopper sees it first. On the rack, the hang tag is your brand's one chance to introduce itself. In the box, the label is what stays with the garment for its whole life. Most new brands treat both as an afterthought, a logo dropped onto a printer's template the week before production. We design them as a system: hang tag, neck label, care label, pocket label and packaging that all look like the same brand, and all arrive at the factory with the specs to make them right.

What we design

Every trim the shopper touches, designed to work together.

One piece or the full trim package for a new line.

Hang tags
Front and back layouts, shape and die line, stock, finish (foil, emboss, spot gloss) and attachment, with room for the barcode and retailer ticket where your accounts require them.
Woven & printed labels
Neck labels, printed tagless labels, size tabs and brand labels, specified for weave, size, fold and placement so the factory sews them right the first time.
Care & content labels
Fiber content, care instructions, country of origin and RN laid out clearly and consistently across the line. You supply the garment facts; we make them legible and on-brand.
Pocket, loop & detail labels
The small branded touches (pocket loop labels, hem tabs, zipper pulls) that make a basic bottom or tee look like a brand.
Packaging & riders
Boxes, bands, header cards and the printed riders that present folded sets like sleepwear, intimates and socks at retail.
Trim packages
Every trim for a line in one spec document: artwork, dimensions, colors, materials and placement, ready to attach to your tech packs.

Why brands work with us

A hang tag is a sales tool. Most are designed like a sticker.

01
Designed by apparel people
Twenty years of trims for department-store, mass and licensed programs. We know what a buyer, a factory and a shopper each need from the same small piece of paper.
02
Factory-ready, not just pretty
Die lines, bleed, stock, finish, Pantone references, label dimensions and placement callouts. Your printer and factory get specs, not a JPEG.
03
One system across the line
Tag, labels, packaging and line sheet share one look, so the brand reads the same on the rack, in the box and in the buyer's appointment.
04
Spend where it shows
We help you decide where foil, embossing or a die-cut earns its cost per unit, and where a clean layout on good stock does the job.

Frequently asked questions

Hang tag and label questions, answered.

What should be on a clothing hang tag?
Your logo on the front. On the back: style number, size and color, a barcode or UPC if your retailers require one, room for price, one line of brand story, two or three feature callouts and your website. Fiber content, care and country of origin belong on the sewn-in label. Our guide What Goes on a Hang Tag? has the full checklist.
What is the difference between a hang tag and a label?
A hang tag is attached to the garment for the sale and removed by the customer. A label is sewn or printed into the garment and stays for its life. The tag sells; the label identifies, informs and complies.
Do you print the tags and labels?
No. We design them and deliver production-ready files and specs. You can use your own trim supplier or factory, or we can recommend one.
Can you design to my retailer's ticketing requirements?
Yes. Send us the vendor or ticketing guide and we build the barcode, price area and placement to it from the start.
Can you design a full trim package for a new line?
Yes. Most clients start with the hang tag and neck label and add care labels, detail labels and packaging as one system, delivered alongside tech packs.
How much does hang tag and label design cost?
It depends on how many pieces and how many rounds. We quote a fixed price after a free 20-minute call. See pricing for how we work.
